FROM THE HEADMASTER

Use What God Gives Wisely. Don’t Waste It and Don’t Serve It.

Rev. Ryan J. Ogrodowicz

Dec. 2, 2022

Hillsdale college president Larry P. Arnn recently wrote an article titled “Education as Battleground.” He states that between the years 2000 and 2019 “the number of district administrators grew by a whopping 87.6 percent...far outstripping the growth in the number of students (7.6 percent) and teachers (8.7 per-cent)” (Imprimis, vol.51, Nu.11).

This isn’t accidental according to Arnn. Such a swelling bureaucracy is an administrative strong-arm of the State concerned more about self-preservation and political agendas than helping teachers and educating kids. Teachers should have all the resources to do their job. But teacher unions in step with politicians defending the bureaucratic growth should concern us all.

The tired cry for “more money” even in the form of school bonds should raise questions in the face of that “87.6” percent.

God commands good stewardship. Just Jesus’ words “you cannot serve God and money” puts things in perspective. Use what God gives wisely. Don’t waste it and don’t serve it. Use it the right way by starting with the neighbor. The GLS budget is about serving a neighbor, funding a school as best we can, and teaching children timeless truth with a Christian worldview. This requires many resources, but God is faithful. Growth in His time, His way is what we’re after, a growth not to line the pockets but help families who share the same goal of raising wise, virtuous children who know where true treasures are found.

It pays to have our kids hear God’s voice daily, drink from the wells of ancient thinkers, and learn in an environment wherein the Scriptures reign supreme. This done as long as possible should be the goal of every disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ, Who still speaks “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:31).

In Christ,
